LILA* Sixth Form College
The LILA* Promise
At LILA* we promise our students that they will ‘love to learn’. We ensure they love to learn by putting them at the heart of everything we do.
We have considered the students’ wellbeing at every step of their journey to LILA*, from the care and advice they receive before deciding which course to study, to their arrival in the UK and their homestay, from their teachers and timetable to the environment they study in.
We believe that students reach their potential when they feel safe and cared for, are challenged academically and have an inspiring environment in which to learn.
Who are we?
LILA* was founded as an English language school in 2004 by sisters Leanne Linacre and Victoria Bligh. Over the past 15 years Leanne and Victoria have grown LILA* into a multi-award winning, British Council accredited language school welcoming students from over 50 different nationalities every year.
Leanne and Victoria were originally English language teachers and having lived and taught overseas understand perfectly well the challenges of adjusting to new culture and environment. They are also mothers and see every LILA* student as an extension of their own family making sure they insist on standards they would want for their own children studying abroad.
Why LILA* Sixth Form College?
LILA* Sixth Form College perfectly complements the language school as students benefit from being part of an international student body in their free time while concentrating on their studies in the small classes and focussed approach of the A Level programme.
Over the past 15 years we have built up a strong network of trusted and experienced host families who provide a warm, welcoming home for our students. In addition to this we have teamed up with Dukes Guardians to ensure that our students are cared for and supported in every pastoral aspect of their stay.
Recognising the growing importance of STEM subjects internationally LILA* students will have access to A Levels in key subjects including Design and Technology - Product Design (incl. 3D Printing), Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Engineering alongside English Language and Literature, Business, Economics, Geography, History and Physical Education, French, Spanish, Italian, German.
We have also teamed up with the University of Liverpool to give our students access to cutting edge university level laboratory space.
- The University of Liverpool Bio Incubator
- White Wolf Yoga
- DoES Maker Space
- Liverpool Football College
- Dukes Guardians
The all-round wellbeing of our students is of paramount importance to us. A Levels are rigorous and challenging and students need to be mentally equipped to cope with the demands of the programmes. With this in mind we have partnered with award-winning yoga centre, White Wolf, and built weekly mindfulness and yoga classes into our timetable.
We run monthly workshops centred on those vital ‘soft-skills’ such as building resilience, developing leadership skills and confidence in public speaking. LILA* students graduate with a strong, well-rounded skill set, ready and able to enter university or the world of work.
