How to Apply to Sixth Form in the UK - Key Dates You Need to Know
A-Levels are internationally recognised as the gold standard of post-16 education. The right A-Levels can open a world of opportunities for further study, training, or work. Students can even go on to study at the most prestigious universities in the world, including Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Harvard and other Russell Group universities here in the UK.
The best route to achieving A-Levels is to study at a Sixth Form College. However, the process for applying starts early, so you'll need to be prepared! Here are some of the key dates you need to know if you want to study at a UK Sixth Form College.
January - March: Do your research
At the beginning of the year, you should be researching which Sixth Form College you'd like to go to. There are 1000's of colleges to choose from, so it can be hard to know where to start. Think about where in the UK you'd like to live, what A-Levels you'd like to study, and what colleges have the facilities and support available to make your studies a success.
Once you've narrowed down your choices, speak to the advisors at your preferred colleges to get some further information.
March - June: Submit your application
It's time to apply! Check the deadline dates for your chosen colleges and submit those applications. You will need to know what 3 - 4 subjects you would like to study at this stage. Think about what your academic strengths are and what you want to do after finishing Sixth Form.

June: Complete subject-specific tests and online English test
To qualify for the courses you've applied to, you'll need to complete some tests related to those subjects. You will also need to take an academic English test. Don't leave all these tests until the last minute! Give yourself plenty of time to take them so you're not rushed.
June: Your online interview with the college you decided on
You aced those tests and have been asked for an online interview! An interview is a chance for you to meet with someone who represents the college. It’s a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about the Sixth Form, to start a relationship with staff there and to show what you’re all about.
It's important to make a good impression. Dressing appropriately, being on time and being polite are simple ways to get off to the right start!
July: Apply for your visa to study in the UK
Congratulations! You've been accepted! If you need a visa to study in the UK, it's time to apply for one. If you're not sure if you'll need a visa, check with your college or check out this website.
