ISI is a body approved by the Secretary of State for Education for the purpose of inspecting independent schools under Section 162A of the Education Act 2002. ISI is also an agency approved by the UK Border Agency to carry out Educational Oversight inspections of Private Further Education Colleges and English Language Schools in England and Wales.
